Donald Trump discussing the Chinese Virus
As go conspiracy theories, some people blame China for deliberately releasing the COVID-19 into the world whereas others believe it was the US that sent this to China to begin a biological war. Are there ways to find out the truth? For this, one would need to observe those who would be knowing what is correct and what is not.
Here is one video which was released where US President Donald Trump is apparently just answering simple questions asked by the press. If one were to listen to the Q&A, it seems like every reporter is asking very similar questions, giving the President really not much scope to give out any noteworthy content to the media. But here is the thing – look at the President’s body language. The way it keeps changing from one question to the other, there are some reactions that should raise our eyebrows.
Watch the video before you read out our analysis below:
Time Stamp: At 0:40 Trump states that he has a great love for all people from the US, no matter what ethnicity.
Meaning: Watch how his eyes are closed for as long as he is stating this. We generally close our eyes during a conversation for one of the two reasons – either we are processing information or trying to accurately focus on what is being said. In this situation, it certainly seems to be the latter. Meaning it is typically blocking behavior. To put it simply, Trump does not believe in what he is saying.
What is noteworthy is that again at 1:08, Trump is asking if China is to blame and his eyes close once again for as long as he mentions China. He really does not like to mention the country or maybe its people, even though he has no choice during a media interview.
Time Stamp: At 1:25, a reporter asks Trump if China should be punished
Body Language: Even as this question is being asked, there is a significant change in Trump’s demeanor. Look at him stepping back, puffing up, and exposing his neck. This is body language that is opening up, showing that he is confident about the topic being discussed. At exactly 1:36, while still answering this question, you would see Trump giving a single-sided shoulder shrug i.e. only one shoulder going up. This happens two times in a row in the same sentence! This signifies that Trump does not believe what he is saying. What is he saying at this point? That people say what they say, if they blame China, it is their words, not his.
Time Stamp: At 2:11 a reporter asked if Asian Americans are at risk because of his use of words “Chinese Virus”
Body Language: As he processes this question, Trump suddenly becomes straight, and steps towards the back. Classic distancing behavior. Before he says “Not at all”. He does not believe a word he says.
Trump shows body language suggestive that while he is saying something during this press conference, he means something very different. His words and body signals are totally out of sync. He does seem to be putting the blame on China, as do so many others. But does this behavior confirm for us that he either started or believed in any of the conspiracy theories above? That is not at all conclusive. To nail down any suspicion from body language, one would need to see if the behavior is repeated when certain topics keep recurring. So watch out if in similar topic videos you spot out-of-tune body language, and maybe that could lead us to some conclusion.
